Longtime ESO at JHS volunteers were honored during the awards ceremony at the 30th annual ESO at JHS. ESO at JHS Co-Coordinator David Peters leads off the awards ceremony with a table full of medals and trophies.

Celebrating 30 Years of ESO at JHS
The ESO at JHS celebrated 30 years of competitions in 2024. First held in 1993 under the direction of Science Club sponsor and JHS teacher Vicki Lamb, the Olympiad hosted over 10,000 students in its 30 competitions at Jacksonville High School. Over 600 teams representing cities all across Alabama have competed since the first year. And, the ESO at JHS has awarded over 7,500 individual medals to top finishers in events over its 30-year run.

Special Thanks to Longtime ESO at JHS Volunteers
Olympiad Coordinator David Peters was honored for his 30 years of service in leading the competition planning and execution since his days as a JHS student. Fellow 1990s JHS alumni Brad Rohrer (co-coordinator), Heather Boothe, and Simon Bevis and family members Mary Jane Peters and Allison Peters were also recognized for their extensive contributions to the event during its three decade run. The coordinating team is stepping away from ESO at JHS here in 2024 with hopes that the competition will continue under the direction of colleagues at Jacksonville State University in 2025 and beyond.
