Jacksonville, home of Jacksonville High School and Jacksonville State
University, is a quiet town in east-central Alabama. Just over 10,000
people call J'ville home with another 7,000+ college students residing
in town during school sessions.
Jacksonville is in northern Calhoun County fairly convenient to I-20 and
Anniston to the south and I-59 and Gadsden to the northwest.
From Birmingham, take I-20 east to exit 183 (Alabama Highway 21, Anniston
/ Oxford). Follow Highway 21 north through Oxford and Anniston and past
Fort McClellan to Jacksonville. The drive takes about 45 minutes from
Birmingham to the Anniston area and about 30 minutes from I-20 through
Anniston to Jacksonville.
From Gadsden and points north and northwest, follow US Highway 431 south
out of Gadsden towards Anniston. Approximately 20 minutes from Gadsden,
turn left onto Alabama Highway 204 east. The turn is marked by a flashing
signal. Travel just less than 10 minutes into Jacksonville past JSU on
your right. Turn right on Alabama Highway 21 south through town.
Jacksonville High School is located on the southern end of the city. From
the north, follow Alabama Highway 21 south out of town. After passing our
old Wal-Mart on the right, turn right at the next traffic signal onto George
Douthit Drive (our new Super Wal-Mart is at this intersection just ahead
on the right). From the south (Anniston), traveling north on Alabama Highway
21 you will pass Jacksonville Hospital and the National Guard Armory on
the left. Turn left at the next signal (the first one in Jacksonville) onto
George Douthit Drive. Follow George Douthit Drive approximately one mile.
Jacksonville High School will be on your left. Continue through the four-way
stop and make the next left to proceed to the back parking lot for Olympiad
parking.
